![]() On the first, the game bugged out and didn’t reset my position, and the second, Mr. I was able to get far in this game on two attempts. I’m not sure how much AI is at play here to me, he seems more like a player-seeking missile. You can also use ‘some’ beds and ‘some’ cupboards to hide in, and I’ve also had him gun for me while hiding in a cupboard. One time I tried sneaking behind my neighbour, slowly, staying directly behind him as he pathed around, and then he suddenly, for no reason, turned around and gunned for me. There is a semblance of stealth gameplay, but it isn’t executed very well at all. In the game’s description, we see another genre mentioned – stealth. I decided to check out the game’s steam store page to try to find out: And, there isn’t really any direction to tell you what to do or what you’re trying to do. If you just try running out, it resets you. If you remove the chair and open the door, a video shows the neighbor coming, and you’re supposed to know to turn right to see the message saying hide in the cupboard. The last part sets you up facing a door with a chair in front of it, if you move away, you get ‘caught’ and reset. More video later, you arrive at the main location of the game, and continue this steamer of a tutorial. Awkward tutorial messages appear, and you fumble your way through. You put the letter on a table, and then the opening video ends and the letter disappears. Your character is in an apartment in the city, you get a letter, and then you pack a suitcase with a key and leave. When first starting up Hello Neighbor, you’re put through a poorly done tutorial. So, it’s a horror puzzle game for about an hour, and then it’s just an annoying puzzle game. And, as you will see from reading a bit further down, it doesn’t take you long to get numb to it. Horror is in quotation marks because there’s nothing particularly scary about the game, except for a single jump scare. On steam, it’s listed as an Adventure and Strategy game, but it’s really just a puzzle game with a ‘horror’ twist. Hello Neighbor, developed by Dynamic Pixels and published by tinyBuild, is set to be released this coming December.
